About Me
Caw Caww! Kookaroo! Cheep cheep! Wait, what’s that sound? We could’ve sworn we heard the sound of six new rescue puppies. Oh…It’s the Bird litter! Falcon, Night Owl, Raven, Dove, Hawk and Chickadee are searching for their forever nests. Hailing from Animal Care Services in San Antonio, these little ones have been bottle-raised since the ripe age of two weeks old. Since they’ve grown up primarily around humans, they are very well-socialized and generally unafraid of the world. Curious, playful, goofy and snuggly are just a few of the words that come to mind when describing them! These kiddos are believed to be some sort of cross between a Dachshund and a Miniature Pinscher due to their short legs and unique black and brown markings. They will likely grow to be small to medium-sized, and will require a minimum of training and daily exercise to keep them happy. Mixed breeds such as these make excellent pets because they are totally unique and don’t often present the same health issues as purebred dogs. With their easygoing temperaments, any of these pups will make a wonderful family companion. So, if you’ve got a sweet spot for squatty dogs, don’t wait…apply now before these kiddos fly away!

In light of #GivingTuesday, we can`t help ourselves but to highlight a little story. ❤️🩹 Meet our beloved Gilligan, who we recently rescued from a rural shelter. This large fluffball was born with terrible hips. Though he tries to run and keep up with the other dogs in the play yard, he is clearly uncomfortable, hopping more like a rabbit than running like a dog. Radiographs showed this young fellow has significant hip dysplasia, and he will need surgery to make his life better. With two FHO`s (femoral head osteotomy) on the horizon, we are determined to provide the best quality life for him. Every pet in our adoption program is treated like our very own. We are in it to win it for the animals!!!! 🐾

Kara’s K9 has fostered many SNIPSA dogs over the past several months—Chiquita, Chance, Giraffe, Rambler, Kyro, Jack, Doodle…just to name a few. Their cage-free environment offers a unique doggy daycare experience and allows our rescues a chance to get their wiggles out! Our pups are able to socialize and come into their own in a structured, fun space. Kara’s has done such a phenomenal job that some previous SNIPSA dogs are now regulars at their daycare facility.

Of course in the midst of the Holiday, animals don’t cease to become ill. 🤔 Poor Lady girl was surrendered to an area shelter with a large ulcerated mass on her neck. Little did we know that she also had a large invasive mass on her spleen. ❤️🩹 With the help of a beloved and special veterinarian, Lady received surgery late yesterday to remove the tumors. We are awaiting histopath results but aren’t overly encouraged. She is still spry, eating and a tail wagging. That’s simply the beauty of our pets, they never seem to know what’s wrong and handle adversity like champions. Please consider donating to her care through the link in our bio.
