Lola (Princess Picatta)

by Hayley Everts on July 17, 2024

Princess Picatta, now Lola, finds refuge in her canine castle! In this tale of rags to riches, we are eager to share how this young Shih Tzu came into a life of luxury.

Lola was faced with euthanasia in March of 2024 after being bitten by another dog. Her prior owners could not provide the necessary veterinary care and, as a result, surrendered her to a local shelter. Suffering from a dislocated and bilaterally broken lower jaw, this pup was in great need of our help.

SNIPSA took Lola in and sent her off to SVTS, where their skilled surgeon reset her jaw and installed an external fixator. Within hours, Lola was eating and playing again! She spent several weeks recovering in a foster home, where she earned her original namesake, before having the device removed. This girl’s chic demeanor and refined manners made her a favorite among our staff. It wasn’t long before she found a permanent palace to call her own.

Fast forward to today, and Lola is treated like royalty by the John Family! Her new parents tell us that “she has a few favorite toys, chews through those rawhide sticks like there’s no tomorrow, and tries to sneak in a stick from outside whenever she can.” She brightens their home with her perfect, playful energy, and has reportedly completed their family.

According to their latest update, Lola is happily settled in after just a few months. “She’s eating well and is starting to understand potty time with us!” Her parents said. “She loves to go outside and can’t wait for the kids to come home from school.”

As Lola grows, she learns fast and loves her family more and more each day. Her parents write, “She’s good at sleeping in her crate and sometimes doesn’t want to go back in (if we have to leave) but eventually will.” They also revealed that Lola gives plenty of kisses and is the B-E-S-T cuddle buddy!

A happy ending for everyone, it seems. Congratulations to the John Family and Lola for finding each other!
