What is a Virtual Race?

In general, a virtual race, unlike a traditional race, can be run at any time and can be run anywhere. Participants can walk, use a treadmill, run outside, push baby strollers, walk/run with your dog – think of the possibilities! Participants can run or walk this particular race at any speed they like. Virtual races can be completed on a specific day or if that’s not convenient, most organizers designate a block of time so the race can be completed whenever and however is most convenient for the participant!  To be considered for prizes, the “official” race day will be September 26 (between 7am and 12 noon).  If you are running because you believe in the cause that SNIPSA represents, you will be able to upload your 5K times through October 4th.

How does a Virtual Run work?

This year we’re getting creative and giving participants options to determine how to come together as a community to celebrate how raising vital funds for homeless and unwanted animals makes a difference today and every day.

Option 1 – The In- Person 5K run/walk

Please note, although the times will count towards prizes, there is no “official” start time. On Saturday, September 26th, from 7:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m., racers may physically run/walk the 5K course at one of the following locations of their choice.  Participants may run solo, with a dog, or with family or trusted friends – no groups larger than 10.

There will be minimal staff positioned at the beginning of the course at the timing station.  Race packets will include a race bib embedded with a disposable chip for tracking racers’ times.  Staff will ensure that social distancing guidelines are enforced and answer any questions racers may have.  Solo participants will begin the race in groups of 2, spaced 6 feet apart, starting every minute.  We do ask that while participants wait to begin the race, they observe community-mandated COVID-19 guidelines by wearing a face mask and keeping 6 feet apart.  Racers are not required to wear a face mask once the race has begun.

Option 2 – Go completely virtual!

Feel more comfortable social distancing, but still believe in the cause?  Are you participating from out of town?  There is just as much fun to be had when you participate virtually.  You can run or walk at home, at the gym on a treadmill, or at any of your favorite trails.  Feel free to get together with family, friends, or teams to complete the 5K, while maintaining safe social distancing recommendations.

If I choose Option 2, the virtual option, how do I submit my results for the virtual race?

For participants that do not run the 5K at one of the “in-person” locations, results may be uploaded at runsignup.org.  Note, that award medals will only be given to racers that complete the run with official chip timing at one of the above two courses on September 26, 2020.

What “swag” is included in the race packet?

Race packets will include a race bib with disposable chip, race t-shirt, face mask and fanny pack.

I am participating from out of town.  How will I get my race packet?

Out-of-town participants have the option to have their packet mailed for an additional $10 when registering online.

Is there a minimum age to enter the race?

No!  We have no limitations on age.  We encourage all ages to participate.

What awards will be given out?

Awards will be in the form of medals (gold, silver, bronze) given for:

1st Overall M/F

Top 3 M/F w/dog (runner and dog must run and cross the finish line together)

1st Master (over 50) M/F

Top 3 M/F in the following age groups (Individual 5K only): 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and older.

*All awards will be based on chip time run between 7am and 12 noon, on September 26, 2020, at one of the two approved courses listed above.  Winners are not eligible for multiple awards.

Can I get a refund?

Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds on registration because production costs are fixed prior to the race.
