About Me
Short Stewie! Squatty Stewie! Stubby Stewie! Or just…Stewie! We promise you’ve never seen a dog quite like this. Stewie is all body and no legs. Well, he has legs…just very, very short ones. But while he may be misproportioned, he isn’t any less loveable! Despite his miniature stride, this dog is going places. Having recently brushed up on his training at Lone Star State K9, he’s ready to show the world what he can do. Stewie was able to master sit, down, place, heel, here, off, bang AND spin at doggy boot camp. He also learned a marker system (yes, good and no) so he knows when he’ll be rewarded for good behavior! Coupled with these newfound skills, Stewie’s perfect house manners and leash manners will make him an ideal dog for anyone. So, let’s talk a little bit more about what to expect with this boy!
Now, because of his height, it’s likely that Stewie’s bloodline contains some Basset Hound. Aside from their famous, short silhouette, Bassets are known for their sweet temperament, friendliness and laziness. Stewie is probably not your next running partner, but he wouldn’t mind invitations to all of your walks around town. He definitely thrives in the company of his humans, though he isn’t overly demanding or jumpy. Rather, he likes to take the cuddle approach (or shadow approach) with the ones he loves! We know that Stewie will make a loving, loyal companion to the person who offers him a second chance. In light of #GivingTuesday, we can`t help ourselves but to highlight a little story. ❤️🩹 Meet our beloved Gilligan, who we recently rescued from a rural shelter. This large fluffball was born with terrible hips. Though he tries to run and keep up with the other dogs in the play yard, he is clearly uncomfortable, hopping more like a rabbit than running like a dog. Radiographs showed this young fellow has significant hip dysplasia, and he will need surgery to make his life better. With two FHO`s (femoral head osteotomy) on the horizon, we are determined to provide the best quality life for him. Every pet in our adoption program is treated like our very own. We are in it to win it for the animals!!!! 🐾

Kara’s K9 has fostered many SNIPSA dogs over the past several months—Chiquita, Chance, Giraffe, Rambler, Kyro, Jack, Doodle…just to name a few. Their cage-free environment offers a unique doggy daycare experience and allows our rescues a chance to get their wiggles out! Our pups are able to socialize and come into their own in a structured, fun space. Kara’s has done such a phenomenal job that some previous SNIPSA dogs are now regulars at their daycare facility.

Of course in the midst of the Holiday, animals don’t cease to become ill. 🤔 Poor Lady girl was surrendered to an area shelter with a large ulcerated mass on her neck. Little did we know that she also had a large invasive mass on her spleen. ❤️🩹 With the help of a beloved and special veterinarian, Lady received surgery late yesterday to remove the tumors. We are awaiting histopath results but aren’t overly encouraged. She is still spry, eating and a tail wagging. That’s simply the beauty of our pets, they never seem to know what’s wrong and handle adversity like champions. Please consider donating to her care through the link in our bio.
