Adoption Responsibilities

We provide our dogs with vaccinations and microchips, we test for heartworms, treat for fleas/ticks, and spay/neuter prior to adoption. Some animals require additional veterinary care such as surgeries and heartworm treatments. We do everything we can to ensure that the animals we place for adoption are free and clear of all disease.

Unfortunately, even though every attempt has been made to ensure that the adoptable animals we have are healthy, it is impossible to guarantee an animal’s health. Many diseases may not show any signs for days or even weeks. If signs of illness are not shown while the animal is in our custody, we may not be aware of any illnesses. Furthermore, we cannot predict if an animal may develop health conditions in the future. Because of that, we want to make sure that you are willing to accept the responsibility to take care and treat any illness or health condition that the dog you adopt may have after it has been adopted.

Is Adopting a Pet Right for You?

Before completing the adoption application, you should consider the following requirements:

  • Be 21 years old
  • Have the time to provide proper care and training
  • Have financial means to provide essential care such as quality food, bedding, toys, treats, vet care, monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, as well as possible emergency care
  • Know what you would you do if the animal got sick or injured.

If you live outside our area, you must be available to come to San Antonio, or make transportation arrangements. We do not have a transport company, but will help facilitate in any way we can.

And most importantly: Are you willing and able to make this serious commitment to love and care for this pet, for the rest of its life?

Contract & Application

In an effort to maintain proper social distancing measures, we have made our adoption contract and spay/neuter contract available online. Adoption and spay/neuter contracts and online payment is accepted only for adopters who have a scheduled meet and greet with the animal and have been given approval by our adoption coordinator. View Adoption Contract.

Once your application has been approved, you will be contacted to set up a meet and greet. Fill out an application here.

For those of you who didn’t know, our office cat is our resident dog tester! 🤭

Sal is always down for a square-off with our new intakes. He has a knack for revealing a dog’s temperament around small animals and children. Sometimes we have to hold Sal back, but this is a job he enjoys! And he ALWAYS comes out on top! 👊💥

Senior dog lovers, we need you! 👋

Who can provide our Betty White with a cozy space in which she can await her forever person? 🧡 This girl is cuddly, curious, and she eats well, despite her old age. She doesn’t mind short leashed walks (or trolley rides) around the neighborhood and occasionally will churn out zoomies in the yard. Betty does have a slight head tilt from an injury that occurred before her rescue. We think it just adds to her charm, and she doesn’t seem to mind it, either. 🥰

Betty is as deserving as any for a foster! We are desperate for someone to take her in and give her the love she deserves. 🙏 For more information, please text us at (210) 371-0056.

We’ve got that Friday feeling!! 💫🧸

Thank you to all of the amazing fosters, old and new, who opened your doors to a SNIPSA rescue this weekend! It’s nice to have an empty office — more space to help more animals next week. 💗
