SNIPSA is an organization formed by a group of veterinarians and caring individuals dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted animals in San Antonio and the surrounding area.

Let’s be honest: your dog has probably been training for this race their entire life. You? Maybe not.
Race for the Rescues is SNIPSA’s biggest fundraiser of the year—and it’s one of the most fun ways to help homeless dogs and cats in our community.
Join us for a pet-friendly 5K starting at the Alamo Heights swimming pool. Run it, walk it, jog it, sniff every tree along the way…whatever works! Bring your dog(s), your family, your friends, or your entire four-legged fan club.
Every step and every dollar helps SNIPSA provide spay/neuter outreach and lifesaving veterinary care for rescue animals in our community.
So leash up, lace up, and come race for the rescues!
This “Big Boy”—hence his namesake—arrived at SNIPSA with a heart full of heartworms! And just to make things interesting, Big Boy weighs a whopping 122 pounds!
That’s a dog-load of medication to treat this ugly parasite—roughly equivalent to treating 12 average Chihuahuas, 6 squatty Beagles, or 3 adventurous Huskies.
But behind all those pounds is an even bigger reminder: heartworm disease is completely preventable.
Every dollar we spend treating this crummy disease is a dollar that could help rescue another animal in need. So please—save those few extra dollars each month, give your dog their heartworm prevention, and keep those doggos healthy!

Jack and Jill went up a hill and found their way to SNIPSA! These two adorable senior miniature poodles are a bonded pair and are ready to spend their golden years side by side. They’ve shared a lifetime together and now hope to find a loving forever home where they can continue their journey as a pair.
Jack and Jill rely heavily on each other for reassurance, often cuddling up with one another when he isn’t exploring. Jill is the sweeter, more confident of the two—she loves pets and will happily sit for treats. Jack, sweet as can be, can be found making his rounds in the SNIPSA office, showing off his soft side.
This duo made their way to our program after their owner unexpectedly fell ill. There is no doubt these two were well-loved and taken care of. Their previous family wanted us to share:
They love being right next to their chosen person. Jack was happiest laying beside his owner whenever he could. They both love going for car rides, are house-trained, and are sweet, loving companions.
Together, they’re quiet, gentle, and full of personality. They don’t bark, enjoy their moments of playfulness, and have the cutest reunion ritual: after being separated, they circle around each other in a little poodle whirlpool!
So Jack and Jill went up the hill… together, they’re hoping to come home with you.
