Olor first arrived at the SNIPSA office for a routine neuter, scheduled through SNIPSA’s feral cat program. However, it didn’t take a veterinarian to realize that poor Olor was in serious trouble. Emaciated and dangerously dehydrated, his skin was stiff and reeked of necrotic tissue. With large, infected wounds stretching across his jawline and nearly half his face, it was abundantly clear that immediate aid was necessary.
He may have been labeled “feral,” but his behavior proved he really was just hurt. SNIPSA’s veterinarians began aggressive treatment with antibiotics and fluids, and after weeks of dedicated care, Olor slowly began to heal. He gained weight, and his wounds improved. He took an interest in his surroundings, and his personality began to shine through. In foster care, Olor became indistinguishable from any other sweet, well-mannered gentleman kitty. He spent his days lounging in cozy chairs, watching birds fly by the window, and learning to socialize with his feline and canine siblings.
Now in his adopted home, his family writes:
“Murph (formerly known as Olor) is truly thriving…. He’s feeling more confident, venturing up to use the cat trees and enjoying the scratch posts. He’s a real nap enthusiast and always up for a cuddle. It really feels like he’s comfortable and settled in his home, and he is so loved.”
Murphy has gotten used to “shadowing” his new mom, Jenny, following her around the house and snoozing up against her. She mentions that he’s learning how to share the time with Henry, the family’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who also tends to trail his human: “We’re currently working on perfecting the art of sharing my lap and bed as a trio,” says Jenny. As for his new sister, Zoe, a Great Pyrenees and former SNIPSA adoptee, the two are getting along great.
Murphy’s health is also on the up-and-up. His recent vet reports have all been positive, and he’s getting over his fixation on food, even leaving some kibble in the bowl from time to time: a sign that he feels totally safe and trusts his family to take good care of him.
Our Olor, now a beloved Murphy, has truly transformed from a malnourished and injured cat into a cherished family member. His journey from the brink of despair to a happy, thriving home serves as a testament to the power of compassion and care. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the SNIPSA team and his loving adoptive family, Murphy is not only surviving but truly living his best life. As he continues to bond with Jenny, Henry, and Zoe, his story inspires others to consider adopting animals in need and highlights the impact of rescue in giving these animals a second chance at happiness.
